Motorists are reminded to slow down to 40 km/hr when they see flashing lights from emergency services.

The brigade attended a grass fire west of Dadswells Bridge that was moving through the roadside grass and spread into a nighbouring paddock which had no grass for it to spread further.

The fire was contained to the roadside.

"Until the police arrived for traffic control we constantly had vehicles going past the scene at a high pace even though we had flashing red and blue light on," the post read.

"It is against the law and we also want to go home safely to our families."

On July 1, 2017 the road rule was first introduced to keep emergency and enforcement workers safe by applying a 40km/hr speed limit when passing a stationary police, emergency, enforcement and escort vehicles with flashing lights or a sounding alarm.

Motorists are not to increase their speed until they are a safe distance away from the scene.

The rule applies on both side of the road if they are not seperated by a median strip.

Drivers can be fined if they don't obey the rule.

"If you see any red or blue lights be it a CFA, SES or police vehicle please slow down, it's not hard to do and could save a first responders life," the Facebook post read.
