Horsham Lawn defeat Kalkee in thriller
Round seven of the Central Wimmera Tennis Association pennant season saw Horsham Lawn and Kalkee play out a thriller, with Lawn winning by four games.
After the first four doubles sets, the scores were tied 2-2. Kalkee's two sets came through Steve Schultz, on loan from Coughlin Park, teaming up with Aiden Richardson to defeat Graeme Wood and Lachlan Punchard 8-5. Jordan Friberg and Luke Byrne defeated D'Artagnan Walls and Andrew Dorman 8-4.
For Horsham Lawn, Tahlia Thompson and Cherie Wood defeated Emily Polack and Anna Exell 8-4, and Ella Thomspon and Gemma Walker defeated Meaghan Pohlner and Keeley Schultz 8-4.
The scores were then level after the next four singles sets. Horsham Lawn's wins came through Tahlia Thompson, who defeated Emily Polack 8-1, and Ella Thompson, who defeated Meaghan Pohlner 8-3.
For Kalkee, Jordan Friberg defeated D'Artagnan Walls 8-6, and Steve Schultz defeated Lachlan Punchard 8-3.
Sets were again tied after the next four doubles sets. For Horsham Lawn, Cherie Wood and Gemma Walker defeated Anna Excell and Keeley Schultz 8-3, Tahlia Thompson and Gemma Walker defeated Emily Polack and Keeley Schultz 8-6.
Kalkee's wins came through Aiden Richardson and Luke Byrne, who defeated Graeme Wood and Andrew Dorman 8-6 and Steve Schultz and Luke Byrne, who defeated Lachlan Punchard and Andrew Dorman 8-2.
With sets tied 6-6 and Horsham Lawn with a three-game lead, the final two doubles matches decided the match.
Horsham Lawn's D'Artagnan Walls and Graeme Wood defeated Jordan Friberg and Aiden Richardson 8-4, which was good enough to win. Kalkee's Meaghan Pohlner and Anna Exell defeated Ella Thompson and Cherie Wood 8-3.
At Drung South Tennis Club, Central Park remains unbeaten following a 9-5 win over Drung South.
Central Park won all four singles sets: Harry Allan defeated Harrison Daniell 8-0, Reece Harman defeated Theo Browne 8-6, Willow Sainsbury defeated Kate-Lyn Perkin 8-4, and Adele Joseph defeated Hayley Reid 8-1.
Their doubles wins came through Adele Joseph and Eve Wear defeating Hayley Reid and Sandra Casey 8-5, Reece Harman and Brendan Nitschke defeating Dale Schmid and Theo Browne 8-7, Adele Joseph and Tara McIntyre defeating Hayley Reid and Marli Pymer 8-0, Frazer Shurdington and Reece Harman defeating Aaron Jennings and Theo Browne 8-3, and Harry Allan and Brendan Nitschke defeating Dale Schmid and Harrison Daniell 8-6.
Drung South's five wins came through Kate-Lyn Perkin and Sandra Casey defeating Willow Sainsbury and Eve Wear 8-7, Dale Schmid and Aaron Jennings defeating Brendan Nitschke and Frazer Shurdington 8-5, Sandra Casey and Marli Pymer defeating Eve Wear and Tara McIntyre 8-6, Harrison Daniell and Aaron Jennings defeating Harry Allan and Frazer Shurdington 8-4 and Kate-Lyn Perkin and Marli Pymer defeating Willow Sainsbury and Tara McIntyre 8-4.
